Douglas Woodring
Chief Executive Officer
Submedia Advertising Limited
Hong Kong

Mr. Woodring has worked in Asia for the past 15 years in a number of industries which have been at the forefront of technology within their sector. For the last four years, he has been instrumental in bringing new outdoor media technologies to Asia. His ability to break into new markets and new territories within cities has led him to yet even newer media technologies that he continues to develop. One example includes Submedia’s motion picture tunnel advertising where images can follow the viewer at any speed, and though he did not invent this technology, he had a vision to create this medium over 15 years ago after spending time riding the Tokyo subway system. He is also now introducing entire building-sized high resolution LED displays, and directional sound systems which act more like a beam of light than a normal speaker in the way they are heard- all are technologies from the United States.

Prior to working with Submedia Asia, he was one of the early founders in Rebound, one of Asia’s first B2B companies to be invested in by Goldman Sachs. As Director of Business Development at Merrill Lynch Asset Management Hong Kong from 1997-1998, his role was to help establish domestic asset management companies within the region. Mr. Woodring has also spent two years as the Deputy Director of International Trade for the State of Maryland’s Hong Kong office, where he promoted exports to Asia of a wide variety of technologies and services. He has a wide range of experience in all of the Asian markets, and is well connected with the business communities in the region. He currently is the Vice Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce’s Environmental Committee, and his long standing interest in environmental issues has led him to begin new work with renewable energy technologies.

Born in California, Mr. Woodring has a dual masters degree from The Wharton School (MBA) and Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and an undergraduate degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley.
