John Ryan began working in the ASEAN region as a Marketing Manager in 1989. In 1990 John spent six months in Indonesia studying the market. Since 1991 John makes it a point to visit the market in Indonesia at least 5 times per year for a period of three weeks per trip. His duties have taken him from the northernmost tip of Sumatra to the remote areas of Sulawesi and all points in between. John focuses on visiting TOP-1’s area distributors and then traveling with their salesmen in order to visit each of the distributor’s customers.
John is the 11th of 13 children, was born in Yokohama, Japan and lived there until 1972 when his father was transferred back to San Mateo, California. John holds a BA in Political Science from San Francisco State University and has graduated from technical several technical courses given by CHEVRON, SHELL and UNOCAL. John also has a working knowledge of both Indonesian and Japanese languages. John has been married to Wylie Mertz for 25 years and has two daughters.
