Miguel Pardo de Zela
Senior Commercial Officer,

Mr. Miguel Pardo de Zela, the Commercial Counselor at the United States Embassy in Hanoi, began his tour in the summer of 2004. He previously was Commercial Counselor in Nigeria and held a similar position in Brazil where he managed a country-wide network of five offices with sixty employees. His other postings in the Foreign Commercial Service, spanning nearly twenty years, include Portugal, India, Australia and Panama.

His work in the private sector included that of strategic planner for a major oil company and credit analyst with the international department of a large regional bank in the United States.

Mr. Pardo de Zela has earned degrees in International Studies (B.A., Beloit; M.A., U. of Denver) and Business Administration (M.B.A., U. of Connecticut.)

As a Foreign Commercial Officer, he has become renowned for his managerial innovations to include the most comprehensive cost-benefit analysis ever conducted at a large Commercial Post and the introduction of e-commerce advances (video-conferencing, push-through reporting, Web Site design and management, performance tracking, intranet document management, etc.) to better serve the American exporting public.

Mr. Pardo de Zela believes that by pro-actively reaching out to the Vietnamese business community throughout the country he will be able to introduce American products and services in commerce, industry and agriculture. Mr. Pardo de Zela believes that strong economies overseas insure a strong economy in the United States.
