Los Angeles

The Honorable Jun Niimi arrived in Los Angeles as the new Consul General in early October 2011. His previous international assignments were to England, Kenya, France, and Iran. He also served as Minister at the Embassy of Japan in Russia and Deputy Chief of Mission & Permanent Representative to the United Nations’ Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific at the Embassy of Japan in Thailand. He has served as Director of the Overseas Public Relations Division, the Consular Policy Division, and the Overseas Establishments Division. More recently, he was Deputy Director-General, Trade Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Assistant Vice Minister at the Foreign Ministry. He graduated from Tokyo University, Faculty of Law in 1979.
